And we want to make it easy for our customers to share those pictures. Youâll discover that with Mail Desktop Beta (Windows Live Mail Desktop) sharing pictures is super easy.
The common situation now? (at least for me I take a TON of pictures. Donât you? Digital cameras make it almost too easy to take 100, 200, sometimes 500 pictures in just a few days. Now, I am not suggesting that you should share all of those; I am sure some of those should be kept private ;). But you always have at least a handful that you want to send to your friends and family. Right now it is a BIG pain.
How are we going to make it better? We are (re)introducing Photo E-mailâa super duper easy way to share photos (for those of you who use MSN Premium client this will be very familiar).
When designing this we debated a lot of what we should offer and decided to start with these tools until we hear more user feedback. We donât ever want to be a full photo editing tool, but we do want to make things easier for our customers (Thank you Heather for making the tough calls; Heather was the original PM on the feature). So let us know what you think! On sending these pictures, the photos will be uploaded to our servers and smaller versions will be placed inside the message (Thank you Dare, Richard, and Jura from the storage team on making this happen!). This will make sure that your friends and family donât get huge messages that fill out their inboxes. In fact, this is what theyâll see:
If your friends want to view bigger versions of the photos, all they have to do is hit âPlay slideshowâ. This is where are our friends from the Spaces team come in. Theyâve created an awesome viewer for your friends and family to enjoy your pictures (Thank you DeEtte, Greg, and James).
PhewâŚthatâs about it. The last thing to say is that we want to hear from you. What else do you do with photos? How do you share them now? What can we do to make it easier and more fun for you to share photos? Looking forward to hearing from you! Hey there, my name is Aaron; Iâm a Software Design Engineer in Test here on the Mail Team. I work on the Contacts feature as well as reliability testing. Here on the Mail Team, weâve been working hard to create a super cool Contacts experience throughout your mail product! The Contacts feature within Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta (MDB) places you and the people you care about at the center of the experience through mail composition, message viewing, as well as a fun, seamless integration with Windows Live Messenger. Without further ado, letâs take a look at some of the new Contacts coolness! First, weâll be looking at our Contacts experience in the message preview pane. Contacts in the Message Preview PaneWhen reading mail, I will often receive a message that I may want to chat with the sender about. You do too? What a coincidence! Well, it just so happens that we have made it really easy to chat with contacts on your buddy list that send you mail. In the preview pane shown above, we right click the sender, and start chatting! Also, within the preview pane, the current presence status icon for the sender is shown so itâs easy to know if the contact is available to chat with.
Next, letâs take a look at the Contacts personal status area within the main MDB window. Contacts Personal Status AreaIf Iâm reading a detailed email message, I find that frequent instant messages from my buddies might be somewhat distracting. So, Iâm excited that, with the presence selector shown above, it is easy to update your current instant messaging status to âBusyâ in MDB if things are getting too chatty while reading mail! Further, we are happy about the fun, integrated experience amongst MDB and Windows Live Messenger (shown below) through the personalized user tile!
Well, thatâs all on Contacts context for now. We are super excited for you to get your hands on MDB to spread the love to your contacts! Â -Aaron ![]() ![]() |
